Ray Lewis Thatcher, 71 of Vanderbilt Michigan went to be with the Lord on Monday December 6, 2021. Born in Flint, Michigan on November 4, 1950, he was the son of Russel and Shirley (Sickner) Thatcher.
Ray worked for 30 years at GM Truck & Bus Assembly in Flint Michigan and moved to Gaylord shortly after retiring.
He had a passion for restoring boats, tractors, and motor vehicles. Most recently you would find him in the garage working on his Model T. Ray was involved throughout the Vanderbilt community and was on the board of the planning commission.
Ray was one of the biggest Michigan fans you will ever meet. He was so happy to see his wolverines beat their archrival and win a conference championship.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Billye Thatcher; his 2 sons, Kirk (Kathy) Thatcher and Kristopher Thatcher; his daughter, Kelly Thatcher; his four grandchildren, Erik Thatcher, Emily Thatcher, Kayla Trafford and Jayllyn Trafford; and a great grandchild, Colton. Also surviving is one brother, Larry Thatcher of Almont, MI; and nieces, Heather, Megan and Becki. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Damaska.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
