Rhonda V. Phillips

Rhonda Vernice Phillips, 54 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Rhonda was born on September 30, 1965 in Flint, Michigan to Richard and Donelda Colwell and older sister, Roxy.  Just two years later another sister, Robin, was born and Rhonda became known forever as the “middle child” of the three infamous Colwell girls.

Rhonda never judged other people’s life choices or actions.  She accepted people just the way they were.  She was herself a “free bird” that lived life to its fullest, on her own terms.  She was loved by many and was a collector of all things.  Rhonda loved her flowers, books, mirrors, music and cooking.  The most important thing in her life was to be surrounded by family, friends and laughter.

Rhonda is survived by her sons, Jacob Phillips and Jack (Kayla) Phillips; granddaughters, Elaina and Bryar and one more on the way; sisters, Roxy (Mark) Mohr and Robin (Walt) Isenhauer; a stepsister, Laura (Marty) Hopkins; special nephews, Chris Mohr, Caleb Mohr and Andrew Feltis; a great niece, Marley Feltis; her “bestie” Peg Wcisel and her former husband, Jamie (Carolyn) Phillips.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Donelda Colwell and her step father, Duane Lamphier.

A celebration of Rhonda’s life, aka “a big party” will take place beginning at

2:00-4:00 PM Saturday, September 26, 2020 at her sister’s home, 1559 River Drive, Grayling, MI  49738.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in her memory to the Salvation Army.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at www.gaylordfuneralhome.com
