Richard D. Meyer

Richard David Meyer, 85 of Indian River on Mullett Lake, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. He loved his family, Janet his wife of 49 years, his stepson, Brett (Camille) Hardy; stepdaughter, Kim Hardy; his two grandchildren, Sierra and Caleb, and his nieces and nephews.

Rich retired from General Motors in 1988 at the age of 49 with 30 years of service. He loved to farm and had a big garden before moving to Indian River 35 years ago. He loved golf, summer and winter fishing, boating, serving the Lord and being an Elder at St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed waking up early every morning to take long walks and checking on the neighbors’ homes when they were away during the winter.

Rich found out he had many new talents when they had their house roughed in then finished it themselves. He was in the National Guard during the Detroit Riots. He loved Dobermans and never got over losing Mullett, his first Doberman. He loved our country and President Ronald Reagan.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mabel; sisters, Violet (Mel) Haselhuhn and Ethel (Tony) Lucas; brother, Ray (Dorothy) Meyer.

We know he is with our Lord and Savior, but we will forever miss him.

A memorial service will take place 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cheboygan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation.
