Rita Catherine Kobane

Rita Catherine Kobane, age 83 passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Born on May 26, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Rita was the daughter of the late Helen and Walter Kobane and dearest sister to both the late Christine (Robert) Kowalczyk and Donna (Paul) Russell of Harbor Springs, Michigan.

A devout Catholic, Rita was a longtime member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church on the west side of Detroit, where she was confirmed and attended elementary school, and St. Basil Catholic Church on the east side of Detroit.

Rita was a 1960 graduate of Cass Technical High School and attended The University of Detroit. A bright and inquisitive person, Rita enjoyed reading and sharing books with friends and relatives. She worked for the banking and newspaper industry her entire working life.

Rita's family and adopted pets were the light of her life. Rita cherished every moment spent with them. Fond memories are recalled of her love for her adopted feline friends Frank, Abbie and Aggie.

Rita was the beloved aunt of Mary (Randy) Spencer, Mark (Elizabeth) Kowalczyk, Paula Kowalczyk (Alan Butella), Rob (Cortney) Kowalcayk, Kristen Kowalczyk Rivas (Mario Rivas), and Forrest (Sarah) Russell. She was the proud grandaunt of Ian, Nicholas and Andrew Spencer, Kathryn (Ryan) Powell, Sara Kowalczyk and Lilly Kowalczyk, Eero Butella, Jasper Kowalczyk, and Conrad Russell.
