Robert R. “Bob” Olszewski, 86 of Gaylord, passed away at home, shortly after spending an enjoyable evening with his brother knights at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 9, 1937, to Joseph and Gertrude (Mier) Olszewski. He grew up in Detroit and was a graduate of Mackenzie High School. He went on to Detroit College of Business, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in 1960-61.
Bob was united in marriage on May 29, 1965, in Detroit to Nancy C. Brachel. Bob and Nancy made their home in Livonia, where they raised their family. Bob worked more than 40 years at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1997.
In retirement, Bob and Nancy Carol moved to Gaylord. Bob was an active parishioner and Lector at St. Mary Cathedral, a 4th degree lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 2781, a member of the Color Corps and a Past Grand Knight.
In his spare time, Bob was an avid golfer and member of the Michaywe Men’s League. He also enjoyed bowling, and cooking and bingo duties at the Knights of Columbus Hall and playing cards with his brother Knights.
Bob is survived by Nancy Carol, his wife of almost 59 years; his children, Kevin Olszewski of Gaylord, and Nicole (Steve) Colone of Milford; grandchildren, Ashley, Samuel, William, and Abagail; a great grandson, Armin; sisters, Rosemary Campbell; and Sharon (John) Lehman; brothers, David (Nancy Jean) Olszewski of Waterford, and Patrick (Colleen) Olszewski; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and his dog Mischa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Olszewski; a brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Mary Lou Olszewski; and a brother-in-law, Marshall Campbell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Mary Cathedral where visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. A gathering for interment with military honors will take place in the spring at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Knights of Columbus Council #2781. Interment will take place in the spring at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
