Rose Marie Dittman, age 87, of Gaylord, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born July 26, 1938, in Detroit, MI, she was the cherished daughter of Martin and Anna Chereson. Rose devoted her life to her family and home, nurturing those she loved with a warm heart and compassionate spirit.
Rose was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where she was a frequent volunteer, teaching Sunday school and cooking and baking for potluck meals. Rose found joy in celebrating holidays with her family, delighting in the art of food preparation from gardening to canning, cooking, and baking. Her creativity extended to sewing and crafting, where she lovingly made many things including: bathrobes, jackets, dresses, quilts, stuffed animals and puppets. Rose was an active community member, serving as Cub Scout den mother and volunteering at Gaylord Community Schools and the food co-op. Her adventurous spirit was evident in all aspects of her life, including her memorable ride in a hot air balloon -- a testament to her zest for life.
Rose is survived by her beloved children, Christopher Dittman of Gaylord, Kristina Katinka of Grand Rapids, Karl (Kathy) Dittman of Torch Lake Township, and Robert (Tammy) Dittman of Fernley, NV. She will also be missed by her cherished grandchildren, Kevin Dittman, Zoe Dittman, Andy Dittman, and Sascha Katinka.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert Dittman; her brothers, Harry and Wally Chereson; and her loving parents, Martin and Anna Chereson.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Family and friends are invited to gather for the funeral service on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
