Stanley V Delidow

Stanley V. Delidow, 80 of Gaylord, died on Friday, January 25, 2013 at home. Born on May 28, 1932 in Denver, CO, Stan was the son of Sam and Pearl (Fischman) Delidow.
He grew up in Detroit and was a 1950 graduate of Central High School. He received his B.S., M.S, and a doctoral degree in education from Wayne State University. Stan later did post doctoral work in anthropology at Columbia University.
Stan was a lifelong educator, teaching at Oak Park High School in the Detroit area, in the School of Education at Marshall University and at West Virginia University. He was instrumental in starting a preschool program in Milford, worked in alternative education in Highland and taught at Mott Community College. Stan was a principal at John Glenn High School in Bangor, near Bay City, a consultant for COOR and assistant superintendent of COP ISD at Indian River. He was also instrumental in the creation of Presque Isle Academy at Onaway. In retirement, Stan worked as a consultant and received a grant from the National Science Foundation for educational programs.
He had a passion for learning and a natural curiosity about everything. He was an avid target shooter who studied ballistics and kept detailed statistics. He was also an avid fly fisherman who tied his own flies. Stan loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, climbing and rappelling. He will be remembered as a voracious reader and an excellent chef.
Stan is survived by Carol, his wife of 34 years, whom he married on November 10, 1978. He is survived by 7 children, Beverly Delidow of Huntington, WV, Lynn Delidow and her husband Malcolm Murphy of North Andover, MA, Pamela Pearce of Margate, FL, Aaron Delidow and his wife Kathlyn of Dayton, OH, Brian Delidow and his wife Terri Boehm of Millburn, NJ, Todd Barr and his wife Marjorie of Bridgman and Nicole Wood of Pinconning and a daughter-in-law, Antje Barr of Ostofen, Germany. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Melena Murphy, Weslie Murphy, Katie Delidow, Jake Delidow, Adley Delidow, Lindsey Delidow, Ryan Pearce, AJ Pearce, Megan Rick, Gage Barr, Karra Barr, Michael Barr and Katherine Barr and 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Tade, Charlie and Zekhia. Stan is survived by one brother, Norton Delidow of West Bloomfield and was preceded in death by a son, Chad Barr and a brother, Alvin Delidow.
