Susan K. DeYoe, daughter of Dr. Robert and Kathryn Greene of Portland, Oregon, passed away on August 4, 2023, from Alzheimer’s. Dr. Greene, an obstetrician at Emanual Hospital, delivered Susan on May 8, 1947, and subsequently adopted her, arriving at his home to present his wife with a new baby girl to join their 3 boys. Susan is survived by her husband Dr. David DeYoe of Harbor Springs, Michigan, and her brother Daniel Greene of Comox, British Columbia.
Suzy grew up in Portland attending Faubion Elementary with her close friend and neighbor Sally Struthers, yes, of “All in the Family”. She attended Grant High School and Oregon State University. David and Suzy met at OSU and were married on June 7, 1968. Suzy served as the Manager of the Pediatrics Clinic in Corvallis while David was completing his Master’s degree, and as Manager of the ENT Clinic at the University of Missouri Medical Center and the Director of the Missouri Lions Eye Tissue Bank while David completed his Doctoral degree. They returned to Corvallis and lived there for 8 years. Suzy followed a dream and bought Gypsy, a beautiful quarter/Arabian horse which she spent hours riding in the forest and on the Oregon beach. David often joined her on his “flaky” Arabian Shilo.
In 1986 they moved to Vancouver Island, British Columbia and then in 1990 to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where they lived until retirement in 2012. During their time in Canada Suzy went back to university and got a business degree and an MBA which she applied to developing and overseeing Health and Safety programs. They lived on 4 acres of pine forest with 200 foot beach frontage on Lake Superior where they were active in wind surfing, biking, boating, cross-country skiing and bond fires on the beach after work, winter and summer. Suzy and David retired in Harbor Springs, Michigan at a ski/golf/equestrian resort. Suzy was diagnosed with dementia in 2015 but remained stable with mild to moderate symptoms until 2022. Suzy will be remembered as an intelligent, independent and at times stubborn lady, who was loving and kind to everyone and always smiling……and she will always be loved.
