Travis W. Fleming

Staff Sergeant Travis William Fleming, 31, of Grayling passed away unexpectedly due to fatal injuries sustained in a tragic skiing accident at Boyne Mountain Resort on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

He was born on May 30, 1992, to Robert Thomas Fleming and Kimberly Ann Fleming [Knisely] in Pontiac, Michigan. In 2010, Travis graduated from Rockford High School and enlisted in the Army National Guard. He was a Senior Information Systems Specialist (25B30) in the U.S. Army National Guard for the past 14 years and planned to stay in for the long haul. He loved serving his Country with his brothers and sisters in Arms.

Travis graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette with a bachelor’s degree in security and loss prevention in 2016. It was there he met his wife, Amber [Manowski] Fleming and they were married on August 19, 2017, at Marquette Mountain. On August 21, 2018, they welcomed their son, Mason James Fleming, into the world.

Travis was an adventurous soul who truly lived his life to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, singing, playing the guitar and harmonica, and spending time and having fun with his family and friends. His smile and laugh filled every room he walked into, and his kindness touched the hearts of many.

One of his greatest joys in his life was being a father to his little boy. Travis was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was truly an incredible person with a light that shined ever so brightly; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Travis is survived by his wife, Amber; his son, Mason; his parents, Robert and Kimberly Fleming; his brother, Matthew (Carly) Mercier; his maternal grandmother, Carolyn [Smith] Knisely, and many dearly loved aunts, uncles, cousins; and his two sweet nieces, Mila, and Maisie Mercier. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Marilyn [Hagerty] Fleming, his maternal grandfather William J. Knisely, his uncle Randall W. Knisely, and his father-in-law Michael J. Manowski.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Travis’ life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Camp Grayling, 311 S. Howes Lake Rd., Grayling, MI 49738.
