Wayne C. Cannon

Wayne Cannon, age 66 of Gaylord, passed away peacefully at his home on December 3, 2020.

He was born in Trenton, MI and lived in California and Idaho before settling in Gaylord in 1977.

He was a man of many talents and trades, having done tool and die work, logging, oil and gas mechanics, and oil rig work. His passion was woodworking. He built four wood strip canoes, an ausable river boat, and pioneered an electric powered canoe named “The Eel”.  He loved restoring antique wooden boats and had two related businesses: Loon Song Boat Company and Cannon’s Marine Service.  He and his wife spent four years logging and cutting white cedar from their property to build their dream home in Sparr, MI where it still proudly stands now for over thirty years. In addition to spending time with the love of his life and best friend, Arleen, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and most of all fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Arleen, sons and their wives Sean and Felecia, Aaron and Carolyn, sisters Beth, Audry and Robin, and brother Tony, along with countless cousins and friends who will dearly miss his wit and sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his father, Ken, mother, Doris “Boots”, and sister Karen.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming summer.  Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at ww.gaylordfuneralhome.com
