E. Darlene Olund

1924 - 2021

E. Darlene Olund, 96 of Gaylord, passed away at her son’s home in Gaylord on Monday, March 22, 2021.  Born in Gaylord on June 13, 1924, she was the daughter of Joseph and Irma (Bailey) Hale.

Darlene grew up in Gaylord and attended Gaylord Schools, graduating in 1942.  She grew up with fellow classmate Pardie Olund, her future husband.

After high school, Pardie served in the military during World War II and Darlene moved for a few years to the Detroit area where she worked in a factory supporting the war effort.  She and Pardie were married in Dearborn on February 21, 1943.

Following the war, Darlene and Pardie moved home to Gaylord.  Darlene served as City of Gaylord treasurer for 33 years.

She was a supporter and volunteer at the Otsego County Historical Museum and life member of Chrysanthemum Chapter OES in Gaylord.  She also enjoyed wintering in Bushnell, Florida and spending time at the family cabin near Lewiston.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Pardie, in 2002; and by three brothers and one sister.  Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Darlene Olund of Gaylord; grandsons, Pardie and Tyrel (Jennifer Gapinski) Olund; great grandsons, Zackary and Joshua Olund; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her family will remember her with a private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery.

A kind and gentle word was all you heard from her. I worked under her supervision at the City office in my senior year of high school.
A wonderful woman who inspired me for years..
