James Edward Holborn

James Edward Holborn

James E. Holborn, 84 of Vanderbilt, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Born in Gaylord on June 14, 1937, he was the son of Charles and Ila (Montgomery) Holborn.

A lifelong area resident, Jim worked for 37 years at H&H Tube in Vanderbilt.  He also worked as a caretaker for several private clubs in the Pigeon River Forest.  In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching old western movies.

Jim was also an avid woodworker.  He built the home where he and his wife, Bernice, live as well as many other projects.  A longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vanderbilt, Jim built the Altar, Baptismal Font and other items in the church.

Jim is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Kobylczak.  They were married for 65 years.

Also surviving are his children, Bruce (Terry) Holborn of Gaylord, Carmen (Kevin) Black of Neptune Beach, FL, Julie (Ron) Herndon of Jacksonville, FL and Shawna Sewell of Gaylord; grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Megan, Jenna and Kendra; great grandchildren, Leah, Lacey, Benjamin, Eliza, Logan and MaKenlee; a sister-in-law, Pat Holborn and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Floyd Holborn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 3, 2021 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vanderbilt where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
