Gertrude Ann (Gapinski) Miller went to rest peacefully in the arms of her Savior on February 15, 2023.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kurt D. Miller; daughter, Maria A. Miller; and son, David R. Miller, all of Gaylord. Also surviving are brothers, David Jr. (Frances) Gapinski of Gaylord, Anthony Gapinski of Parma, Ohio, Philip Gapinski of Gaylord, Raymond (Sally) Gapinski of Gaylord; sisters-in-law, Doris Miller of Alanson, and Janet Miller of Wolverine; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She’s also survived by her cats that she loved, especially her favorite, Bandit.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, David J. Gapinski Sr. and Rose Agnes (Skwiercz) Gapinski; brothers, Carl and his wife Alfreda, Aloysius and his wife Laraine, and Edward. Also preceding in death were sisters-in-law, Polly and Sharon Gapinski and Margaret Green; brother-in-law, Charles Miller; and father and mother-in-law Richard and Betty Miller.
Born on the family farm in Gaylord on May 29, 1946, she loved her Catholic education at St. Mary’s School in Gaylord. Upon her graduation in 1965, she started work at Gaylord Tobacco & Candy Co. as office manager. After marrying Kurt in 1977, she went to work side-by-side with him at their auto parts business until they sold it in 1995. Always wanting to stay busy and meet people, she then began working at various endeavors, including as a teller at Old Kent Bank, then as office manager at Northern Management, and as a cashier at Ace Hardware.
She felt one of the highlights of her life was their trip to Poland, where she was able to visit the birthplace of her favorite Pope, St. John Paul II.
Gert enjoyed tending her flower beds, and especially the ones around St. Mary Cathedral, where she volunteered with her friend Barb.
The family will visit with friends at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, February 20, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at St. Mary Cathedral with a visitation before the mass at 10:00 AM.
